ATLAS ALPHA 8

The atlas alpha 8 is a very rare lantern that had two MBF or SON lamps. They were always remote-geared, and they had two ballasts in the base of the column.

Constitution hill, London

This is the only example of the atlas alpha 8 known to still exist on the streets. The door at the top of the lantern has come open, so the lantern is now filled with water and dirt. It has a Royce-Thompson photocell on it, and it was installed in the 1960s.
